November 2020 – Stacy and John Faecher

November is here and it is time to be thankful, grateful and hopeful as we enter a season of celebration and gratitude. With all the challenges of 2020, we are so grateful for our neighborhood and wonderful neighbors. This month we are especially thankful for our November Yard of the Month winners, Stacy and John Faecher at 14818 Avila Bend Dr. in the Betty Brown section of Hearthstone. Large live oaks provide some late autumn shade for gloriously bright and heathy cora vinca blooms, foxtail ferns, birds of paradise, variegated ginger and more. It is worth the trip into the Betty Brown section to view this yard that celebrates the season with abundance and joy.

October 2020 – Andrea and Reid Kuhn

Autumn has arrived, leaves are falling, crows are cackling and our yard of the month is really one to fall for! The October Yard of the Month, 14906 Inverrary, boasts an exceptional lawn and colorful blooms thanks to ongoing effort and care by owners Andrea and Reid Kuhn. Crepe myrtles and maple trees provide a bit of cover for an abundance of plants including pixie loropetelum, foxtail ferns, Japanese yew, pentas, petunias, colorful crotons and pumpkins. It’s a perfect blend of autumnal joy. Grab a coffee or cider and take a morning or late afternoon stroll, this yard will really leave you feeling cheerful!

September 2020 – Julie Reifenrath and Denny Perkins

We made it through the summer and cooler autumn days are just around the corner! Fall is beginning to appear, later sunrise and earlier sunset, a bit of rain and slightly cooler temperatures have ushered in September. The September Yard of the Month, 14606 Trophy Club, managed to pull through the Houston heat and humidity just beautifully thanks to much loving care by owners Julie Reifenrath and Denny Perkins.Expertly sculpted boxwoods make a lovely border for Mexican heather, Mexican petunias, pentas, cora vincas, lantana, knockout roses, privet, flax, society garlic and crepe myrtles. This yard has it all and the lawn is heavenly, so stroll by today!

June 2020 – Jenny and George Salinas

Summer has arrived and while we are celebrating the Class of 2020 Grads (and Dads!) take some time out to relax with a ride or stroll by 14979 Sandalfoot Street, home of Jenny and George Salinas for a bit of outdoor refreshment for eyes. A colorful palette of green awaits with brushstrokes of blue, purple, pink, red and white. Foxtail ferns, ligustrums, crepe myrtle, sago palms, bottlebrush and red sisters make a lovely backdrop for blooming agapanthus, begonias and summer snapdragons. The landscape artistry and lush green lawn make this yard a winner and delight for Hearthstone!

May 2020 – Diana Alderman and Richie Anderson

Neighbors, like many of you I began my mornings scouring the newspaper for a glimmer of hope, an encouraging story, a positive current event, but to no avail. However, the Hearthstone Garden Club’s Yard of the Month Committee came through to lift our spirits and save the day. The matriarch and patriarch of Hearthstone real estate, Diana Alderman and Richie Anderson, of 14902 El Miranda have generated the best news you’ll find anywhere. Exchange the doom and gloom for blooms: agapanthus, hibiscus, foxtail ferns, sago palms, blue plumbago, roses, and impatiens combine to flaunt their beauty in the face of negativity.

April 2020 – Mike and Cathy Coby

Neighbors, are you yearning for a dose of hope and an injection of normalcy? The paramedics on the Yard of the Month Committee have found the cure. They prescribe fast-acting visual exposure to 7114 Blenheim Palace Lane, staffed by specialists Cathy and Mike Coby. The miracle drug has many common ingredients in measured amounts. Instead of patients in their beds, you will observe a colorful cocktail of variegated ginger, snapdragons, begonias, crepe myrtles, knockout roses, orange day lilies, and dusty millers. Instead of employing teams of nurses and doctors, these beds are monitored by live oaks, pines, and green and yellow ligustrum hedges. Contrary to stern warnings to stay six feet away, there are two spring wreaths on the doors. Sterile containers have been replaced by pots of desert roses and petunias, and masks and gloves have given way to Easter eggs in the hedges. Feeling better already?
